Hello there! Blob here…..
Helen has been busy trying something new. She has been very quiet working away in her sketchbook and on the computer for the past week or so. There has been lots of paper (everywhere), a fair number of ‘naked’ mugs and and lots and lots of masking tape!
When she finally popped out of the space she appeared carrying a number of mugs with paper designs taped around them. She wanted to see what we (and her family) thought of these new creations which are at the opposite end of the spectrum to the handmade sculptures and pots that she makes from start to finish. She announced these were to be the start of her homewares collection, a series of usable items designed to make people smile as they carry on with their everyday lives.
Having started to get to grips with some new technology, Helen made up the computer files that would go off to a company specialising in printing ceramic decals (transfers). It was with great excitement that she signed for a large brown envelope a few days later. A few scissor snips later and she was happily soaking the transfers in water before sliding them into position on the ‘naked’ mugs.
Into the kiln the mugs then went and we waited (very impatiently) overnight until the kiln was cool enough to open and the treasure inside taken out. We are so pleased with the outcome! We think the portraits of us Blob Birds have come out well and we know the Bugbears are also very happy with their likeness.
We are now waiting equally impatiently for another set of transfers to arrive so that we can finish off the first collection of designs. There will be four more featuring us, the Blob Birds, and two very special Owl and Puss mugs. We can’t wait to show them to you! Who knows what will follow after that.
Bye for now
